Dr Alberto Oppedisano

Olon S.p.A.
Rodano, Italy

Alberto was born in Turin (Italy), he studied organic chemistry at the University of Turin where he graduated under the guidance of Paolo Venturello and Cristina Prandi. Later, in 2015, he received a PhD from the same University. During this time, he studied in the group of Ryan Shenvi, as a fellowship student at The Scripps Research Institute from 2013 to 2014. In the course of his studies he developed metal-catalyzed methodologies for applications in total synthesis. Next, he moved to Vienna, in 2015, to work in the group of Nuno Maulide as a postdoctoral fellow. In addition to academic research, he collaborated on a project with Bayer Material Science/Covestro to develop processes for new bio-based materials.
Alberto started his career in industry in 2017, when he moved back to Italy and joined Procos. Here he started his career as a process chemist, working on the development and scale-up of processes to synthetize small molecules APIs. Finally, in 2021, he moved to Olon, where he is working as a senior researcher, shifting his focus on the industrialization of bioprocess based on recombinant DNA technologies. Here he leads a team working on the isolation, chemical functionalization and purification of small proteins and peptides. He was awarded the prize “Organic chemistry for the development of processes and products in industry” (junior) from the Società Chimica Italiana, received in 2022.
