Selin Kara completed B.Sc. Chemical Engineering (2000 – 2005) and B.Sc. Food Engineering (1999 – 2004) studies at Middle East Technical University (Turkey). In 2005, she moved to Germany for M.Sc. study in Biotechnology at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) with a DAAD–Turkish Education Foundation scholarship. In 2011, she was awarded a Ph.D. in bioprocess engineering at the TUHH Institute of Technical Biocatalysis (Head of the Institute: Prof. Dr. Andreas Liese). From October 2011 to September 2013, she worked as a PostDoc researcher in the Biocatalysis Group (Head of the Group: Prof. Dr. Frank Hollmann) within the Department of Biotechnology at Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands). In September 2013, she started her Habilitation (venia legendi) in the Chair of Molecular Biotechnology (Head of the Chair: Prof. Dr. Marion Ansorge-Schumacher) at Technical University Dresden (Germany). In July 2015, she moved from Dresden to Hamburg, and until July 2018, she has been leading the research group Reaction Sequences in the Institute of Technical Biocatalysis at the TUHH. In May 2018, Selin Kara completed her Habilitation in the research field of Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering at TUHH. Since July 2018, Prof. Kara has been leading the “Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing” Group in the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering at Aarhus University and in parallel to her Danish affiliation since October 2021, Prof. Kara has been the Head of the Institute of Technical Chemistry at Leibniz University Hannover, Germany.
